With a growing influx of foreign students in the U.S., researchers have begun to pay more attention to their learning outcomes and career development. This paper explores career status of foreign doctorate recipients in educational system and compares their career trajectories with native colleagues. Data comes from NSF Survey of Doctorate Recipients. Compared with U.S. colleagues, foreign doctorate recipients haven’t lagged behind in employment rate and career development. The tenure rate, academic rank, the proportions of taking leadership positions were not significantly different among each population. However, some differences in working responsibilities and positions were perceived. Foreign doctorate holders were more research oriented and they emphasized more importance on job returns. An overall lower job satisfaction was reported.
