Transforming Teacher Education Through Queering Youth Participatory Action Research in a Teacher Education Classroom

Abstract

This inquiry, rooted in Queer theory, seeks to expand the platform for research and practice, through engaging in a collective and collaborative inquiry and teaching process. In this youth participatory action research (YPAR) project, we address critical educational topics by engaging preservice teachers as equal-status professionals. Moreover, we continue to peel back the layers of opportunity and challenge that are possible when engaging in YPAR with LGBTQIA+ identifying preservice teachers across a variety of understandings of gender, race, and culture. Further, possibilities of connectivity and collaboration in educational problem solving become present when we invite a larger swath of educational stakeholders to take part in intentional transformative ruptures in the teacher education classroom.
