Learnership: Advancing Democracy Through Measuring Active Civic Participation

Abstract

Active civic participation continues to be an issue that threatens democratic societies. This paper advances the concept of "learnership" that researches civic participation through measures of engaged citizenship, educational leadership, and lifelong learning. Based upon recent developments in learning cities research and lifelong learning policy, the topic of learnership offers a way to connect outcomes of civic education for assessing active civic participation at local urban and democratic communities.
