Reflections of Academic Experiences of Incarcerated African American Males

Abstract

This study inquires into the academic experiences of African American males who have been incarcerated in California. Investigating experiences of participants who have engaged with both educational and criminal justice systems will help determine how public schools can better prepare Black boys for a better future. Examining early academic experiences helps show the degree of influence urban schools exert on the life choices of youth.
