In this session, we discuss the development and use of a set of guiding principles for providing feedback to pre-service teachers (PSTs) on their practice teaching in a simulated classroom environment. Our goals in this work were two-fold: First, we sought to use design-based research methodologies to produce a useable set of guiding principles for such feedback. Second, we collected feedback from feedback writers and PSTs to build an evidentiary base for the principles. While the feedback guidelines produced are specialized to this project work, the guiding principles represent a more generalizable framework for providing quality, usable feedback to novice teachers.
