Non–Music Majors' Behavioral Intentions to Continue Participating in Musical Activities Based on the Theory of Planned Behavior

Abstract

The aim of the study is twofold: (a) to develop a measure of non-music majors’ attitudes and behaviors related to continued music participation based on the Theory of Planned Behavior and (b) to investigate an empirical examination of the non-music majors’ behaviors related to continued music participation. For the first purpose, multiple steps, including an open-ended survey, experts’ reviews, a pilot test, and a main survey will be employed. The questionnaire will be verified through statistical analysis of reliability, construct validity, and confirmatory factor analysis. For the second aim, this study will test the proposed effects of latent constructs on non-music majors’ intentions to continue with musical activities. Detailed results and implications will be discussed at the conference.
