Demographic Variations During Adolescence: Parental Involvement, Learning Motivation, and Science Achievement

Abstract

This study investigated the moderating role of children’s gender and ethnicity in the above associations. Using the national representative data for seventh-graders from the Longitudinal Study of American Youth (LSAY) and focusing on their science achievements, we sought to understand the gender and ethnicity variations that created the associations between parents’ educational expectations, parent-child communications, and science achievements via these children’s perceived academic competence and efforts.
