This paper focuses on the results of a seven-week, school-based teacher intervention designed support teachers in building on children’s home language and literacy experiences, as well as promoting their understanding of practices to promote effective communication with families. As part of this intervention, parents also participated in a weekly intervention to promote their understanding of literacy practices they could engage in at home surrounding conversations around books and practices to promote fluency. The research questions include:
(a) How did classroom teachers incorporate and build upon children's home literacy experiences in the classroom?
(b) What were teachers' beliefs concerning the role of the family in children's literacy development?
(c) What were teachers’ beliefs about their own role in parent involvement?
