This research proposed aims to study principals’ perceptions of autonomy by race and in schools where they are racially mismatched to the instructional staff. To study these phenomenon, descriptive and regression analyses will be conducted to examine five panels of data available from the National Center for Educational Statistics (NCES). These data panels include: Schools and Staffing Survey (SASS) 1999-2000, SASS 2003-2004, SASS 2007-2008, SASS 2011-2012, and the National Teacher and Principal Survey (NTPS) 2015- 2016. This research uses Critical Race Theory as an analytical framework.
