Creating a Promotora Model in Education

Abstract

This is a qualitative study (study in progress) which seeks to create Promotora Model in education, developing cultural educators of change who are committed to working towards the needs of all communities by seeking local, state, national and global justice. Twenty-six students participated in the study which included a one week intensive training combing land based and critical pedagogy. The goal of the one week training was to recruit more students of color to become educators with an interest in pedagogical paradigm shifts and social justice. Four of the twenty-six will be conducting their students teaching in an elementary classroom. An in-depth interview will be conducted to understand how the one week training affected the way they educate children.
