The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of a peer led teaching model to improve personal financial knowledge of elementary and middle school children. One hundred and fifty two students (9-13 years of age and in grades 4-7) participated in the study. The teens who conducted the workshops were trained juniors and seniors in high school. The students completed a 10-item multiple choice questionnaire prior to and after a series of 4 workshops. The peer tutors conducted four workshops over a period of one month at the schools. Paired t-test showed that there were significant differences in the level of overall financial literacy knowledge, earning income, and savings (p < .001), pre and post workshops.
