The Shift to an Undergraduate Elementary Residency: A Narrative Case Study

Abstract

We conducted a narrative case study to explore the experiences of faculty involved in the shift to a yearlong residency model within our elementary program. Conducting both a narrative analysis and a analysis of narrative we compiled a story of transformation from the participants and identified 6 themes of adaptive challenge work that were present or absent within the storied experiences of the participants. Given researchers tend to focus on residencies as an object of study with attention to outcomes, we aimed to fill this gap in the literature by focusing on the process of transformation making it possible for others to view a pathway such transformative clinical work.
