Abstract

In this paper, I explore how the creation of textiles could be used more formally as a method of inquiry and a methodology within educational research. First, I begin by discussing how textiles have been used in truth-telling processes by women and Indigenous peoples in Chile, South Africa, and Canada in the aftermaths of violence and human rights abuses. In these cases, the creation of narrative textiles facilitated the documentation and transmission of individual experiences and emotions in ways that words alone could not suffice. I proceed to situate my work in the Colombian context and discuss how researchers have used the creation of textiles to understand memory, subjectivity, political participation, and reconciliation.
