Factor Analysis of the Attitude Toward Parent Involvement Survey With Preservice Teachers

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the factor structure of the Attitude Toward Parent Involvement Survey when used with pre-service teachers. An EFA using 1,729 administrations of the survey was conducted. The following three factors were identified: “Partners in Learning,” “Teacher-Initiated Activities,” and “Parent-Initiated Activities.” A three-factor model CFA was tested to confirm the factor structure from the EFA. The three factors were allowed to correlate. Overall, the factors obtained from the EFA showed good model fit supported with a CFA. This study is the first study to confirm the instrument’s factor structure. It provides support for the measure’s widespread usage with pre-service teachers to assess attitudes and attitude change after training in parent involvement.
