Principal Leadership Network: Researchers and Educational Stakeholders Collaborating for Public School Improvement and Student Success

Abstract

This paper explores and documents the impact of a three-year University-led partnership with practicing principals and teacher leaders from diverse school districts designed to enhance principal and teacher co-instructional leadership that leads to increased and equitable educational outcomes. In particular, we discuss the unique design features of this partnership, the areas of leadership growth, the school improvement actions being taken as well as the challenges and barriers to improvement.
Guiding questions:
1. In what ways does this professional development program support principal instructional leadership as well as co-instructional leadership with teachers?
2. Through the opportunity for joint principal and teacher learning is there a more interactive and two-way relationship between principal leadership and peer (teacher) relationships and leadership?
