Evaluating Social Issues Advocacy in Citizenship Education: Psychometric Robustness in a "Fit for Purpose" Frame

Sat, April 18, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is two-fold: to evaluate the psychometric qualities of the short form of the Social Issues Advocacy Scale-2 (SIAS-2SF) and to consider its role within a “fitness for purpose” framing of program evaluation. Global citizenship education (GCE) includes enhancing knowledge, building skills, and adopting attitudes that promote actions for a more equal world, all of which are dimensions of social justice advocacy measured by the SIAS-2SF, making it a valuable tool for assessment. In this paper the factor structure of the SIAS-2SF was reevaluated (n=284) and field tested (n=69). Results demonstrate excellent psychometric evidence. We discuss the role of the SIAS-2SF within a “fitness for purpose assessment” framing of program evaluation of GCE oriented-programs.
