The Case for AERA to Retract Research Demonstrating the Effectiveness of "Success for All"

Abstract

Success for All (SFA) is the most research validated collaboration curricular reforms for improving reading in high-poverty elementary schools—much of which has been published in AERA journals. As a result of this evidence SFA became the most widely used reform for improving reading in high-poverty urban schools for decades. However, a growing body of independent evidence demonstrates that this program was never effective. This study will present the contrary independent evidence that spans 20 years which appears to be sufficient for AERA to engage in the recognized scientific process of retracting the research it published. The process of retraction will be explained and data showing education lagging other disciplines in retracting misleading published research will be presented.
