Effects of Combining Inquiry-Based Learning With Drama-Based Techniques on Motivation

Sat, April 18, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

This paper reports the effects of the integration of drama-based and inquiry-based learning on students’ intrinsic motivation toward science learning. Findings suggest that supporting inquiry-based learning with drama-based techniques has a positive impact on students’ motivation, compared with traditional teaching. Experimental group’s responses, as elicited from their interviews, indicated that the satisfaction of their psychological needs might affect positively their level of motivation, as advocated by the self-determination theory. Furthermore, the experimental group’s responses hinted to a positive impact of motivation to their increase of self-awareness and self- confidence regarding their collaborative, communicative, and acting skills to the drama-based learning they experienced.
