Abstract

The role that Catherine Beecher played in shaping the identity and mold for teachers in the United State cannot be underestimated. Yet, her contributions, for better or for worse, are often completely overlooked. If teachers are to truly join the ranks of the professional class, they must have an understanding of the origins of the American concept of the identity they embody. Only then can they begin to work towards changing that. Catherine Beecher must be restored in that narrative.
