Engaging Young People With Refugee Experience Through Participatory Photography: Institutional and Service Provider Partnerships

Abstract

This paper describes two research projects conducted in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Mississauga, Ontario funded through the Child & Youth Refugee Research Coalition. Both initiatives invited young people with refugee experience to communicate their experiences, concerns, and aspirations through photography and then present their work to key stakeholders and community members. These collaborative research projects connected academic, community, and service provider partners to address issues of social exclusion and discrimination faced by young newcomers in Canada.
