In this study we build on Gutstein’s (2016) conceptualization of three types of knowledge -- Classical; Community; Critical -- to map the space of possibilities when designing for critical mathematics. We describe, illustrate, and distinguish 4 types of models, defined according to connections among the 3Cs: (1) foregrounding of Classical Knowledge; (2) foregrounding of connections between Classical and Community Knowledge; (3) foregrounding connections between Classical and Critical Knowledge; and (4) foregrounding the overlap among the 3Cs. We show various engagement with the 3Cs as part of the curriculum design process, and various engagement, layering and sequencing of the 3Cs in the produced designs.
