This paper examines the expansion of six evidence-based teacher recruitment and retention programs in 373 hard-to-staff Bronx schools, and the impact program involvement has had on school-level teacher retention. In implementation year two of five and funded through the Teacher and School Leader (TSL) federal grant, the New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) is scaling programs in order to build, retain, and sustain Effective and Highly Effective teachers. This paper analyzes what combination of TSL programs and school conditions increases the likelihood that a given Bronx teacher would be retained in their school. Preliminary results reveal four distinct clusters of schools for whom participation followed similar patterns, yielding insights to inform future implementation and scaling of programs.
