A Juxtaposition of Stakeholder Perceptions of Diversity Issues in Higher Education Law

Abstract

The purpose of this quantitative study was to explore faculty and student perceptions of diversity issues and campus initiatives regarding free speech, gender equity, and ethnic diversity. Students and faculty (n=167) from 20 institutions participated in this study. The results revealed the difference in overall study participant perceptions of “Importance of Initiatives” and their subsequent perceptions of “Comfort with the Status of Initiatives” was manifested at a statistically significant level (p < .001) with an accompanying very large magnitude of effect (d = 1.46). The results also revealed student participants manifested perceived comfort with the status of initiatives at a statistically significant degree greater at “Liberal Arts” institutions than “Research” institutions (p = .04).
