Predicting School District Funding in Pennsylvania: Application of a Spatial Analysis

Sun, April 19, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

Resolving a history of inequitable school district funding in Pennsylvania has become a hotly-debated topic in the state. This analysis provides a new layer of refinement to that topic, by accounting for spatial patterns and dependencies when looking for significant predictors of funding. Of interest to methodologists and policy-makers alike, this study as much an exercise in appropriately applying spatial regression models as it is a pursuit of persistent explanations of variation in funding between districts.
