A Document Analysis of LGBTQ Services in the U.S. Community College System

Abstract

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans*, and Queer (LGBTQ) students have existed in spaces of higher education with the goal of achieving certification toward upward mobility, especially support of their personal and social development. Community colleges in the United States play an integral role to provide LGBTQ students an education, developmental opportunity, and a sense of community through the existence of spaces dedicated to LGBTQ Services. As organizational focus is vital toward support of LGBTQ students at universities, community colleges are mobilizing to bring services to this population. Through a document analysis, we examined the number of LGBTQ services and support available at community colleges in the United States.
