Indigenous Epistemologies: Implementing Indigenous Practices and Perceptions to the Area of STEM

Fri, April 17, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

This study will utilize the auto-criticism interpretive framework as well as the methodology educational criticism and connoisseurship. The interpretive frameworks auto-criticism (Uhrmacher, Moroye, & Flinders, 2017) was chosen because of its ability to combine race and ecology. Because many Indigenous STEM practices and teachings start with and end with nature and relationships, it is important to incorporate auto-criticism as an interpretive framework through the lens of race, worldviews, and ecology. By doing so, this study will highlight how Indigenous practices have always included STEM education thus making STEM more inclusive for Indigenous people.
