Abstract

Some have termed women’s success in higher education the “female advantage,” defined as a clear rise of women, as they surpassed men in higher education achievement. However, women’s so-called “advantage” in education is not associated with similar gains in broader notions of socioeconomic attainment. Research to date has not comprehensively applied theoretical frameworks or decomposed the determinants of post-college outcomes for women relative to men (e.g., educational attainment, higher education experiences, family, or other unexplained factors) in an effort to close the gap. My study seeks to address the differences in earnings between men and women and fill these knowledge gaps.
