Abstract

The conference theme of “The Power and Possibilities for the Public Good When Researchers and Organizational Stakeholders Collaborate” is embodied in the research-practice partnership (RPP) known as Principal Preparation for Excellence and Equity in Rural Schools (PPEERS). PPEERS – a partnership among 10 rural districts and a public university – addresses the persistent problem of practice of recruiting, preparing, and placing effective leaders in high-need rural schools. Using design-based implementation research (DBIR), the RPP has developed, implemented, and iterated the PPEERS program. Findings trace the co-(re)design changes of three program elements based on research findings and draw conclusions about the use of DBIR for principal preparation.
