Atlanta 323: Initial Findings From a Research-Practice Partnership Focused on School Readiness and Achievement

Abstract

As interest grows in the promise and challenges of early childhood education to alleviate gaps in school readiness and achievement, partners in the city of Atlanta have worked to establish a cohesive preschool to 3rd grade (P3) early learning system that bridges the divide between early childhood (Birth to 5) and elementary education (K-3). One key component of that work has been to create an integrated data system with mechanisms that support data gathering, analysis, and utilization. The purpose of this paper is to share results from Atlanta 323’s first P3 research studies on (1) school readiness among three groups of pre-K students in Atlanta and (2) the relation between varied Pre-K experiences and K-1st grade achievement.
