By exploring the pedagogical encounters in the Hollywood film School of Rock, I demonstrate how Deleuzian insights can be generated from qualitative film analysis. School of Rock (2004) was selected because the protagonist (Dewey) employs a creative and artful approach to teaching while positioning himself as a co-learner and content creator, implicitly demonstrating how teacher and student work can hold educational, social, cultural and economic value. Film analysis was employed to study an assortment of transcripts and social interactions (including the music) from within the film. By using films in the research process, further insights might be obtained from how cultural representations form lived experiences.
