This paper explores the curricular encounter in a 1st grade classroom in the 21st century that reproduces processes of difference making generated in the 16th century. In classrooms in the quickly-called 1st world with their mediated mobile technologies, young people are encountering images of those once produced as “others.” One of the objectives of the research presented in this paper and the specific analysis in it answers the following question: How do young people descendants of Europeans engage with difference in 21st century mediated classrooms?
