Expanding From the Margins: Decentering Narratives in Curriculum Studies Through Critical Self-Reflections

Sun, April 19, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

I introduce the concept of expanding from the margins. Expanding from the margins advances a blend of critical theory and critical practice through continuous, critical self-reflections. The purpose of expanding from the margins is to decenter the curriculum narratives used to construct curriculum. The act of expanding from the margins relies on the concept of counter-stories (Aragon, 2017; Ladson-Billings, 2013; Solórzano & Yosso, 2016). Counter-stories challenge the hegemony of curriculum.
