A Justice-Oriented Pedagogical Mutuality: Teaching and Learning Together to Disrupt Antiblackness

Abstract

This presentation will engage attendees in a focused dialogue that illustrates the responsibility of educators during the heightened increase of racial violence. We will model humanizing, critical and creative curricular and pedagogical activities that reject anti-black racism ideologies pertaining to Black life. As such, we push to show how carving out a Black space (Paris, 2017) for Black youth can center Black students’ history, which would include present realities in which Black people experience racial violence and brutality (Author Two, 2018; Butler, 2017; Author Two et, al (2017); Dumas & Ross, 2016). Finally, we will illuminate how the work of researchers, teachers, and families working together can benefit Black students and people of Color within classroom spaces and beyond.
