Angles, Filters, and Narrative Images: Reflections on Contextualized Urban Inquiry as a Series of "Narrative Selfies"

Tue, April 21, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

In this paper, a team of three researchers--diverse in age, experience, and culture--re-story their individual accounts of a disruptive event in the field. By burrowing into each interpretation, each retelling reveals cultural and experiential perspectives on the event. These reflections lead to a broadening of context and ambiguity of image on the greater landscape of urban education in the United States. Using the metaphor of “Narrative Selfie” the researchers explore embodied knowledge as a filter, individual experience as an angle, and they co-construct a convergent image of the event captioned by wonderings and open to further inquiry.
