Academic Achievement and Middle School: A Five-Year Longitudinal Study of Schools to Watch in Four States

Mon, April 20, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

The primary focus of this study is to compare the academic success of schools designated as STW (model middle schools), to schools without such designation, but with similar demographic parts. Academic achievement is measured using results from the 2013-2017 state-based criterion-referenced test in the areas of mathematics and reading/Language Arts for CO, NY, OH, and VA. A multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) will be conducted to examine multivariate differences, and a linear mixed model analysis will be conducted to examine the univariate difference in scores when taking into accounts the clustering of schools within the states.
