Sat, April 18, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

This paper presents a critical review of emerging patterns surrounding online language teacher education (OLTE) programs in second language (L2) teacher development. Through a systemic review of publications on OLTE between 2000 and 2019 in related professional fields that include TESOL, applied linguistics, and L2 teacher education. We discuss the types of programs, curriculum and instruction, and challenges of OLTE programs. This discussion will elucidate possibilities and critical issues that emerge at the programmatic and pedagogical levels of OLTE in securing quality L2 teacher education, as well as challenges specific to OLTE programs as a future area of research.
