This study examines the multimodal self-expressions of 75 students in 4th-6th grades in Mexico City who participated in the dia program, an instructional model that shifts traditional teacher-centered practices toward co-construction of a learning space that is conducive to dialogue, reflection, and socio-emotional awareness through narrative and art. Preliminary findings indicate patterns in themes of personal connections, which include family, friendship, and interests, as well as mentions of identity, agency, and sensory descriptions. These findings contribute to better understandings of how student-centered pedagogies in Mexico can facilitate students’ multimodal expressions of identities, agency, and personal connections through programs that center dialogue, socio-emotional awareness, and the co-construction of knowledge.
