Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine how tenure-track Black women navigate being a Blackmotherscholar while in the academy. We draw from Black Feminist Autoethnography (Griffin, 2012) as a methodological approach to center the experiential knowledge and experiences of Black women, motherhood, and pre-tenure in ways that research scholarship has overlooked. We conclude with recommendations for how Black women professors who are mothers can advocate for themselves, their scholarship, research, and counter their presumed incompetence as well as the disposability of Black women in higher education.
