Using Multimethod Research to Understand Achievement Gap Reversals Through Collaborative Information Sharing

Mon, April 20, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

In the presence of a persistent gap in performance and opportunity between racial groups, there is evidence to suggest that improvements are possible. This evidence provides hope that the continuous, ardent work of researchers and educational stakeholders can result in the achievement of the previously underserved. However, the work of these groups cannot live in a vacuum.
This paper examines collaborative information sharing through a multimethod research design. Following extensive ex-post facto data analysis, the techniques of phenomenology, and theoretical sampling led to an embedded multiple case study. The National Science Teacher’s Associations best practices for science leadership are also juxtaposed against the perspectives of school leaders who reversed the eighth-grade science gap in Florida.
