In this presentation, we will report on a study that examined how teachers and administrators could interpret the scores from both the California Spanish Assessment (CSA) and the Smarter Balanced English language arts/literacy (ELA) assessment. We conducted focus groups with both teachers and administrators from five different Spanish language programs (i.e., dual language immersion, one-way immersion, developmental bilingual, Spanish as a heritage language, and Spanish as a foreign language). Students in these programs are most likely to have taken both the CSA and the ELA. This presentation will share how teachers and administrators can interpret the results from both large scale assessments together.
