Family Matters: Understanding the College Choice Process of South Asian American Women

Sun, April 19, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

As the American higher education landscape continues to mirror the increasing racial and ethnic diversity across the U.S., several studies have sought to explore the nuances of the college choice process for various historically underrepresented groups. However, scant literature exists on the Asian-American experience and almost none focus on the South Asian-American experience. Through in-depth phenomenological interviews, this study explores the ways in which South Asian cultural identities shape students’ college choice process.
