A Practitioner Perspective on Research-Practice Partnerships

Abstract

Research-practice partnerships (RPP) have evolved to provide a vehicle for collaboration between researchers and practitioners to produce research that improves educational practice. The literature has described the mutual benefits and challenges of RPPs without addressing the substantive change needed to achieve the desired outcomes. This study presents exploratory research on an RPP framework designed to address the challenges noted in the literature. The RPP involves multiple school districts in an urban area and a university research center. The district partners were interviewed for their perspective on the RPP. The findings of this study will have implications for the use of RPPs to facilitate the utilization of research for district-level education policy decisions, and provide the district perspective of RPP work.
