The participation of women and underrepresented minority groups in the medical profession pipeline is a widely recognized issue that is often studied at the medical school level. This study broadens the scope of this issue to examine how undergraduate experiences may influence medical career intentions. Drawing from a nationwide, longitudinal survey, this study examines how students’ medical career intentions shift from freshman to senior year. Framed by Weidman’s Model of Undergraduate Socialization, the study uses binary logistic regression to examine predictors of students’ intention at the end of their senior year to pursue a medical career.
