Using Place-Based Enrichment Triad in a Rural Gifted Pullout Classroom

Sun, April 19, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

This qualitative case study explored how Renzulli's Enrichment Triad with a focus on place influenced teaching and student learning in a rural gifted pull-out classroom. Findings from this narrative inquiry indicated that rural Appalachian gifted students’ participation in a place-based Type III a) encouraged personal affective growth, b) positioned students as change agents within their rural place, and c) shifted teacher’s practice from external motivation frames towards internal motivation supports. Future research should continue to study the value and effects of implementing the Enrichment Triad focused on place with rural gifted programs.
