Investigation the Relationships Among Past Learning Experience, Psychological Capital, Academic Self-Efficacy, and Learning Engagement of College Freshmen

Abstract

This study aims to explore the relationship between past learning experience and learning engagement of first-year college students, and how psychological capital and academic self-efficacy may influence such relationship. A questionnaire survey was conducted with 634 first-year undergraduate students participated. The results showed that learning engagement of college freshmen varied significantly across their academic self-efficacy, psychological capital, and past learning experience. According to structural equation modeling (SEM), the result shows that past learning experiences are associated with academic learning engagement, and psychological capital and academic self-efficacy have mediation effect on the association.
