Our Site of Possibilities: The Acceptance/Resistance of Institutionalized Racism in My Classroom

Mon, April 20, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

The purpose of this autoethnographic narrative is to reveal some of the realities of working in and against institutionalized racism by reflecting on moments in classroom dialogue as curriculum maker and as curriculum critic with the understanding that these two roles do not run parallel to each other but instead lay intimately and quarrel with one another. To do this, I, first, will discuss the acceptance of institutionalized racism as a lived experience shared with my students, predominately Hispanics in a Hispanic-Serving Institution; then, I will discuss the resistance we create as a response to this acceptance.
