Related to the 2020 theme, “The Power and Possibilities for the Public Good When Researchers and Organizational Stakeholders Collaborate”, this conceptual paper will discuss how an emancipatory education and engaged, collaborative approach (Post et al., 2016, pp. 79-80) can be used to re-envision the impact of career and technical education (CTE) (U.S. Congress, 2018, pp. 2-4) within urban education. The purpose of this paper is to explore the impact of an emancipatory CTE course for black high school students. The significance of such a study will provide students with life skills beyond workforce alignment, to self-determine the vitality of their communities.
