Abstract

Leadership coaching for currently practicing school leaders has gained new attention in recent years. The purpose of this review of the literature is to consider: (1) what is known about the design of coaching interventions more generally, with attention to identifying the assortment of malleable design features/properties/attributes that designers can likely shape as interventions are created and deployed, and (2) what is known about leadership coaching designs and the impact of design choices on outcomes expected from coaching. Such analysis allows us to advance a leadership coaching design framework that explicates key design features and considerations that are likely to be of high value to designers of leadership coaching interventions and to those who conduct research on this topic.
