Self-Regulated Learning and Adaptive Learning Analytics Dashboards: A Reflexive Thematic Analysis

Sat, April 18, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Virtual Room

Abstract

AL is an approach to personalized learning that provides individual learning support such as customized learning content and suggestions tailored to students individually (Liu et al., 2017; Somyurek, 2015). SRL is a learner’s active learning process that involves cognitive, metacognitive, behavioral, and motivational aspects of the learner’s learning process. This study aimed to understand how learners facilitate their learning given the information from an AL dashboard through the lens of SRL. Twelve undergraduate students were interviewed twice during the semester and the transcripts were analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis (Braun et al., 2019). Findings showed learners’ significant roles of monitoring and controlling through the learning analytics information in the dashboard leading them to facilitate various strategies to achieve their goals.
