A Cross-Cultural Study of Measurement Invariance: Learners' Digital Competence and Digital Informal Learning

Sun, April 19, 8:15 to 9:45am, Virtual Room

Abstract

Abstract: Research on comparative or cross-cultural Education usually involves comparing different groups of respondents. Prior educational studies showed that the neglect of establishing the invariance of their measures across groups leaded to inaccurate buckling group comparison results when using structural equation modeling (SEM). This research presents a three-step procedure to assess the measurement invariance when using variance-based SEM by a cross-cultural study. We assess cross-cultural group invariance of key scales considering university students’ digital competence and digital informal learning. The results indicate that the proposed MICOM procedure appropriately identifies full measurement invariance in cross-cultural study to explore digital learners’ competence and learning behaviors.
